ARNSCHEID & WEIDLICH (2017) kommen zum Schluss: "P. obscurella differs considerably from P. reticulatella in morphological and genetic characteristics. Therefore we consider P. reticulatella as a seperate species. Für das Taxon sensu REBELs (1938) "Fumea obscurella" melden sie diverse neue Fundorte aus Kroatien und Nord-Griechenland.
